
New Parents Invited to Community Baby Shower in Poughkeepsie
Parenthood is an adventure that none of us are really prepared for, until we're in it. We can read all the books and attend all the classes to prepare, and now, Dutchess County is offering the opportunity for new and expectant parents to get ready for their bundle of joy at a Community Baby Shower!

Sue Serino, Dutchess County Executive, along with the Dutchess County Department of Health, has announced a free Community Baby Shower in Poughkeepsie. The event will be held Tuesday September 29th, from 3pm-7pm at 29 North Hamilton Street.

With thanks to support from the Institute for Family Health's Perinatal and Infant Community Health Collaboratives, Healthy Families Dutchess County Programs, and Poughkeepsie Chldren's Cabinet, this free event will not only celebrate new and expectant parents across Dutchess County, but provide them with resources, education and support.
The key topics that will be covered at the event include feeding options, infant development and early childhood resources, car-seat use and installation guidance, prenatal and postpartum mental health, safe sleep and lead-safe practices.

Essential Guidance & Giveaways at Community Baby Shower
County Executive Serino, regarding the event, shared the following:
Every family deserves to feel supported, informed and celebrated as they welcome a new baby. Our Community Baby Shower brings together incredible partners and resources to make sure parents have what they need from – trusted guidance to essential items. We’re proud to host an event that helps support Dutchess County families, and we hope so see you there!

There will be a number of vendors on site providing information and resources to attendees, and 'practical' giveaways as well. Typical baby shower activities like photos, games and trivia will be happening, light snacks and beverages will be offered, and Spanish-speaking staff will be available as well.
Vendors will share evidence‑based educational materials and additional resources related to pregnancy, infant care and family health. Labor doulas, lactation consultants and local healthcare providers will be on site to answer questions and offer individualized support.
Attendees will be encouraged to visit all of the tables and vendors to get their 'shower passport' stamped that will enter them for themed basket raffles, and even larger raffles like a stroller, baby food blender, Bobby and a Pack n' Play.

Finally, the DCDOH will be offering childhood vaccinations to attendees, and those who would like to learn more can call 845-486-2963 to confirm eligibility.
