Who Monitors New York State City's Water Sources?

While the Department of Environmental Conservation oversees much of New York State's public land, the DEP police are responsible for patrolling areas in the state that supply drinking water to New York City, like the Ashokan Reservoir (below).

The Ashokan Reservoir is stocked with fish annually, and fishing is permitting for anglers using approved rowboats and canoes. Recently, one such boat capsized during an outing, requiring a multi-agency emergency response.

DEP Police Rescue Fishermen on the Ashokan Reservoir

"This morning, DEP Police and reservoir staff helped rescue two fisherman from Kingston whose rowboat overturned in the Ashokan Reservoir", began a recent post from the NYC Watershed on Facebook (below). Luckily for the anglers, they were perfectly prepared for the incident.

The fishermen made it easy for DEP police, the Olive Fire Department, and other first responders as not only were they licensed to fish, but they were reportedly wearing personal flotation devices and had other flotation devices in the boat as well.
