Getting Personal With Jordan Fairless Of Big About Growing Up And Music Influences

You can listen to the exclusive WRRV interview with Jordan Fairless along with finding out more in this article!

I discovered that Jordan can do it all! He's a singer, songwriter, and bassist who was formerly a member of Spafford and is now playing with Big Deep. During our conversation, Jordan shared stories about growing up in Alabama, living in Florida and Arizona.

Jordan also chatted about how he spent several years growing up just outside of Nashville before eventually making his way to the Hudson Valley, where he now lives in Woodstock. I asked him what first inspired him to pursue music and he said it was something that had always been a part of his life. Jordan also explained that growing up, he was surrounded by music which then sparked his passion at an early age.

He said that music has always been a part of his life. Jordan was surrounded by instruments at home, especially guitars, participated in band and orchestra throughout school too!

He highlighted that he tried a variety of instruments, including the trumpet, French horn, and drums. Along the way, he also became fascinated by the technical side of music, learning about mixers, microphones and other recording equipment. Jordan described himself as someone who "knew a little bit about a lot of different things."

He also hopped into songwriting and shared that because of this, it has helped him become the

"Independent, DIY musician he is today."

Jordan and I were chatting about who he has shared the stage with throughout his career. This included The Disco Biscuits and he even performed at the Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, one of my personal favorites!

I asked Jordan who his favorite artist has been to tour with and what venue stands out the most. He included that touring with Umphrey's McGee as one of the most influential experiences of his career. He was able to travel across the country with the band and is thankful for it.

While Red Rocks is one of Jordan's favorite venues, he also gave love to The Fox Theatre in California and Orpheum Theater in Arizona.

We also chatted about Big Deep which is the band that Jordan co founded with Luke. I was curious as to how the project came together and he shared a fun story and the magic behind it.

Jordan and Luke met and realized they wanted to create a new project together along fast forward to having a collection of 15 songs a year later! They used their creative energy, talent and musical chemistry right in Woodstock to then create Big Deep.

The band recorded the album at Utopia Studios Bearsville in Woodstock and spent about two months bringing the project to life. With the recording complete, Big Deep is now getting ready to release its debut album!

When I asked Jordan how he would describe Big Deep to someone listening for the first time, I mentioned that they have those indie rock vibes but wanted to know more. He included that it's a mix of groove rock, indie rock and some improvisation as well.

They want to keep music lovers dancing to what they perform! I like to dance so we will definitely check them out at one of their Hudson Valley shows.

I wanted to know more from Jordan about Big Deep's album recording process at Utopia Studios Bearsville in Woodstock. Since theres such rich music history in that area, I was excited to hear what it was like to record in such a place.

Jordan mentioned that there was something special about recording at this studio in Woodstock. He explained that the studio was used by so many to record songs and albums. Jordan described that the room also has a unique sound to it and he wanted to not only capture the music but also the feeling of that space.

I loved hearing Jordan talk about this special space and the magic there as well. It truly seems that it had great meaning for Big Deep to have recorded there.

I mentioned my story with Jordan about Woodstock. I have always been drawn to the Ulster County area and came across a drum circle in Woodstock the last time that I was there. There were people dancing, laughing and soaking up the sun on a warm, summer day. It was something that I will always remember from the special moments along and near Tinker Street!

Jordan also mentioned that living in Woodstock has had a meaningful impact on his life and within his music. He explained that hes fortunate enough to live nearby to see all of the fun festivities take place.

It was nice of Jordan to share his gratitude for the community and the people that he has met in Woodstock which add the happiness of being in Woodstock.

I asked Jordan if he wanted to give a shoutout to any local businesses in Woodstock. I know that he's a fan of Bread Alone and I am too. Jordan mentioned his brainstorming sessions that take place at these local place including a popular kitchen, restaurant and even Pearl Moon received some love.
