Free Gun Locks from New Paltz Police for Limited Time

The Town of New Paltz Police Department is helping Ulster County residents exercise proper gun safety with a program that distributes free gun locks.

Updates to New York State gun laws in 2022 shifted the landscape of gun ownership, including adding new restrictions to the state's concealed carry laws. There are also several safety requirements for New Yorkers when it comes to gun storage.

Gun Safety and Storage Laws in New York State

It is New York State law that all guns in a household with residents under the age of 18 must be stored with a gun locking devise or be kept in a locked container that is fire, tamper, and impact-resistant. While these devices are available for purchase, the Town of New Paltz Police Department is currently offering gun locks free of charge.

"The New Paltz Police Department is proud to partner with the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services and the Office of Gun Violence Prevention to promote responsible firearm storage", began a recent post from the NPD (below).

Where to Get Free Gun Lock from Town of New Paltz Police

The department shared that while supplies last, free gun locks are available at their station lobby located at 59 North Putt Corners Road in New Paltz, NY, reminding residents that "safe storage is one of the most effective ways to protect your loved ones".
