Beloved Germantown Eatery To Close After Decade Of Service
It’s always tough to say goodbye.
Especially when it’s to a place as beloved as Gaskins in Germantown.
After nearly a decade of serving up some of Columbia County’s finest meals, owners Nick and Sarah Suarez have announced that Gaskins will hold its final dinner service on Sunday, November 24th, 2024.
The couple shared the news on Facebook, stating, “Deciding to close has been the hardest decision of our life.”
Gaskins, which first opened its doors in June 2015, quickly became a community staple, offering a menu filled with burgers, seafood, and seasonal dishes.
It wasn't just the food that drew in the crowds, though. As the couple shared in their heartfelt post, “It’s been so much more than a restaurant. The folks who take care of all of you are pure magic.” From walking fussy babies around the dining room to celebrating milestones with customers, Gaskins’ staff played an integral role in making the restaurant a home for many.
In their Facebook statement, the Suarezes mentioned that the decision wasn’t due to any one reason, but rather an understanding that after 10 years of running a “busy, dynamic restaurant,” their family was ready for change.
Their parting message was one of gratitude:
“We are forever touched by you. We never expected this place would give us so much. A community, a family, a purpose.”
The closing of Gaskins comes just a year after The New York Times ran a glowing article on the restaurant, titled "Germantown, N.Y.: An Upstate Haven That Beckons Creatives," cementing its status as a destination for locals and tourists alike.
One fan summed it up perfectly on Facebook,
“My heart is breaking a bit, but I might get over it if you publish a cookbook.”
Gaskins may be closing, but it seems its legacy will live on in the hearts of all who experienced it.
