Giant Insect Caught On Video!

It was an early Fall evening in Hyde Park, NY. When out of no where a giant insect starts crawling around outside. Upon further inspection it looked like a beetle, however this thing was HUGE!

I couldn't believe my eyes and needed evidence of this prehistoric looking creature. Pulling out my camera I begin recording. Thing was quickly scurrying across a parking lot and I'll admit I was a bit nervous to get too close. It stopped moving for about 3 minutes as if to plot its next move.

I jumped back as it opened up its back, released a large set of wings and took off! The people behind me screamed even though I was the only one in harms way. The bug never actually bothered anybody and we gave it the same respect. Would this thing be considered a beetle? Anyone see a bug like this? Should we expect more as fall continues?
