Gone Shootin’ – How I Spent International Women’s Day
I've been bothering a friend for the past few months to take me out shooting. I've always wanted to go and get some aggression out and do a little target shooting.
Now, let me preface that with fact that rugged and outdoorsy are not two words that go in the same sentence as my name. I don't do dirt, I can't handle bugs, and never in a million years would I shoot an animal, but I digress.
Sunday morning, after finally figuring out what time it really was after the time change, I got a call from that friend asking if I wanted to head out to the range and give this a shot, literally. Having never even held a gun before I was a little nervous, but willing to give it a try.
After getting a thorough gun safety lesson and getting comfortable with holding the shotgun, it was time for my first shot.
Lined it up, pulled that trigger, almost peed my pants a little...

Hit the target on my first try, and the rush of adrenaline was wild. Totally hooked.
It was a little scary at first, but with good, patient, instructors, I was holding my own. I went a few rounds on a few different shotguns, and honestly, I was feeling pretty badass, and will definitely be going again.
I'm not trying to get into a battle about gun control, or make any sort of political statement, simply share my experience of feeling kind of badass for International Women's Day!
