A former Hudson Valley police officer charged with quadruple murder says he saved the life of his cellmate, Jeffery Epstein.

Nicholas Tartaglione claims to have helped Epstein after finding him unconscious from what's believed to be a suicide hanging attempt. The billionaire sex offender was found on the floor of his jail cell with bruises around his neck, the Daily News reports.

There were initial reports Tartaglione assaulted Epstein in their Special Housing Unit of the Metropolitan Detention Center. However, Tartaglione's attorney said the two have become friends. The Daily Mail reports the pair bonded over the prison's awful conditions.

Tartaglione, a retired Briarcliff Manor cop, is accused of killing four men in 2016. The dead bodies believed to be of four Hudson Valley men, who went missing in April 2016, were found on property owned by Tartaglione in Otisville, officials say.
