Hudson Valley Goats Get Summer Job in NYC
Some local goats are heading to the big city.
According to ABC 7, a herd of goats from Rhinebeck will be spending the next few months in New York City. The goats will be hard at work in Riverside Park, although to them it will seem like a relaxing summer vacation.
The goats are being hired to clear out invasive plants that have taken over the city park. The plants are located in a section of the Riverside Park that's difficult for workers to access. The hungry goats, however, will have no problem reaching the plants. If all goes according to plan, the goats will have cleared the entire area by the end of the summer.
The use of goats to get rid of pesky plants is not a new idea. The animals were used by the park back in 2016. Because the program was so successful, they decided to do it again. The goats aren't just cheap labor, they replace the use of power equipment and chemicals that have a negative effect on the environment.
The Hudson Valley goats will chow down on a seemingly endless supply of food throughout August. After that, they'll be sent home to the Hudson Valley where their fellow farm animals will most likely be waiting to see if they developed a New York City accent or not.
