It is that spooky time of the year and people are streaming scary movies all month long. Despite having a toddler at home I am no exception. I still watch scary or Halloween themed movies but because I have a small child at home my movie choices have gotten a little lighter.

Instead of watching Halloween, Friday the 13th or A Nightmare on Elm Street I have been streaming Disney movies for my kid. She's obsessed with Hocus Pocus and Halloween Town. Both of those movies are clearly spooky movies themed around Halloween. It's quite obvious.

There's one movie that puzzles me. Disney's The Nightmare Before Christmas is a great flick with an awesome cast and some unforgettable music. What holiday is Disney's A Nightmare Before Christmas themed around?

The Nightmare Before Christmas is about the Pumpkin King named Jack Skellington who grows tired of celebrating Halloween every single year. The movie is pretty dark and features all kinds of monsters like werewolves, vampires and witches. It takes an odd turn when Jack discovers Christmas Town and becomes fascinated by Christmas holiday. The Pumpkin King plots to kidnap Santa Clause, put on his red suit and take over Christmas.

Is this a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie?

Is it both? Do we enjoy it from October until December? It doesn't have the same scariness as most Halloween movies and it also doesn't have the jolly feel like most Christmas movies. Maybe we can call it the perfect combination of both holidays.
