New Yorkers Are Asked To Hold Off Mowing Until June
Have you heard about the No Mow movement? It's a mouthful to say but you are being asked to wait until June to mow your lawn. As weird as that may sound, there is a good reason behind it..
The reason behind the No Mow movement revolves around a tiny, inch-long creature with a snazzy black and yellow body: It's bees. Yep, it's all about those buzzy little buddies of ours.
According to the Center for Biological Diversity and the Bombus Pollinators Association of Law Students, American honeybee populations are dropping off big time. They say that there is a nearly 90% decline in the American honeybee population. At that rate, they'll be gone for good in no time and that's bad.
In fact, it's so bad that honeybee experts think that our little pollinators should be classified as endangered species. One kind of bee found in New York known as the Rusty patched bumblebee, is already on that list.

Maybe you're wondering what does No Mow have to do with honeybees. By letting more flowers bloom, we're giving these close to extinct bees a chance for more time to collect nectar.. By waiting until June to use your lawnmower, we're giving our buzzing buddies a chance to survive.
2 Good Reasons To Wait Until June to Mow Your Lawn
Here is something else to think about: more than a third of the food we eat is directly or indirectly because of bee pollination. Hey, most of us look for reasons to not mow the lawn anyway and I'll give you two. 1) You'll save money on gas by waiting until June. 2) You'll be saving the honeybees and help to keep the food chain going.
