Dog Poop Problem Uncovered at Popular Venue in Dutchess County
Dog owners who don't pick up after their dogs in Dutchess County are officially on notice.
Most Hudson Valley dog owners already know that it's a requirement to clean up after their dog or dogs if they do their "business" during a walk. It's not only the law in New York State, but it's also the right thing to do for your neighbors. No matter where they go, you need to pick it up and throw it away in the trash!!!
Unfortunately, not everyone is getting the message, and one popular Dutchess County venue has had enough.
Dog Poop Shaming in Dutchess County, NY
The Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck, NY, is getting ready for a busy season of outdoor events, with staff working for months to clean up the property. Unfortunately, during those efforts, they ran into a frustrating and very familiar problem.
In a recent Facebook post, fairgrounds officials said, “This morning, our maintenance staff picked up over 35 bags of dog poop that people left in the lots on Mulberry Street.”
They didn’t hold back either, adding, “THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE and TOTALLY DISRESPECTFUL.”

The message went even further, calling out irresponsible pet owners directly: “This is a message to the irresponsible dog owners who feel entitled to not have to clean up after YOUR dog—SHAME ON YOU! You are ruining it for those who do respect others' property.”
Pick Up After Your Dog
The fairgrounds, which are private property, allow residents to use their parking lots as a courtesy. All they ask in return is simple: leave it the way you found it.
“It’s not fair to our staff to clean up after you,” they added. “We take great pride in keeping our property beautiful for the community and our patrons.”
So if you're planning to walk your dog at the fairgrounds in Rhinebeck, make sure you bring bags—and actually use them. Because if this keeps up, it’s probably only a matter of time before that courtesy disappears.
