
State Police Make Drug Bust on New York’s I-684
A routine traffic stop resulted in the New York State Police making a significant drug bust on I-684 in the Town of Southeast, NY.
Last week, we told you that the New York State Police (NYSP), along with the Westchester County District Attorney's Office, had launched the District Attorney’s Safer Highways, or D.A.S.H. program.

The initiative, which is underway through February, will increase NYSP patrols on the Sprain Brook Parkway and I-684, targeting a number of unsafe driving behaviors, including speeding, reckless driving, impaired driving, road rage, and more.

The program is not only targeting unsafe driving, but it has also resulted in a significant drug seizure, according to a NYSP press release.
Traffic Stop Results in Drug Bust on New York's I-684
Police said that on Tuesday February 10, 2026, at approximately 12:55 p.m., troopers assigned to the DASH initiative observed a vehicle traveling northbound on Interstate 684 in the Town of Southeast in violation of vehicle and traffic law.
Troopers proceeded to pull the vehicle over and conduct a traffic stop. During the stop, the driver, identified as 38-year-old Manuel De Jesus Genao Gutierrez, of Queens, NY, gave consent to search the vehicle.
Search Reveals Hidden Compartment
During the search, troopers discovered a hidden compartment inside the vehicle that contained more than 1,800 glassine envelopes containing approximately 58.1 grams of heroin. They also found a vacuum-sealed plastic bag and numerous glass containers, containing approximately 128.2 grams of cocaine, and approximately $24,000 in cash.
Gutierrez was arrested at the scene and was charged with the following:
- Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 2nd, a class A-II felony
- Two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd (intent to sell), a class B felony
- Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, a class B felony
- Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 2nd, an unclassified misdemeanor
Gutierrez was arraigned in the Town of Carmel Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail.
