Hello, June! This is one of my favorite months for several reasons. June is my birthday month along with the start of the best season, summer!

We can spend more time outside, soaking up the sun and enjoying the warm weather. The activities in the Hudson Valley are endless and there’s a wide variety for everyone to experience.

Gardeners in New York State can also get excited as they can spend more time with their plants outdoors.

Which Garden Centers And Greenhouses Can We Shop From In The Hudson Valley?

Gardeners in the Hudson Valley were wondering when to start with their outdoor planting. While some began in June, others are heading to local garden centers to begin this fun journey.

There are plenty of local garden centers that we can get plants from. One of the most popular and beloved places we can check out is Adams Fairacre Farms and their five locations! I love walking through their greenhouse and garden center. It’s always relaxing with plenty of fresh flower smells.

Wallkill View Farm in New Paltz is another great option in addition to Hudson Valley Seed Co in Accord.

When To Plant Flowers In New York State For A Beautiful Garden

Now that we’ve learned which flowers and plants come back each year and looked at garden centers in the Hudson Valley, we can better understand when to plant them for the best results.

The Old Farmers Almanac shared a helpful Facebook post. They included four ways to plant flowers. Some of their suggestions highlighted that we can plant seeds indoors. This can be done a few weeks before the last frost in our area.

The Old Farmers Almanac also mentioned that we can take the flowers and then translate them into the ground. This can be done either before or after that last frost.

I was excited to continue to learn from the Old Farmers Almanac that we should plant annually after any ideas of when the last frost could be. This is something that I’ve always heard of!

Lastly, they highlighted that if we can plant spring bulbs, we should do it during the fall. If we want to see the beauty of summer bulbs, we can plant them in the spring.

The Old Farmer’s Almanac mentioned,

“Different plants need differing amounts of lead time before they are ready to be transplanted into the garden.”

They also have a helpful guide on their website for those who want to learn more! Have fun this summer and happy planting.
