Local firefighters had their hands full this week when a car fire completely consumed a vehicle on a popular Newburgh, NY road.

Volunteer fire departments are constantly responding to calls both large and small across the Hudson Valley. In Newburgh, NY, one department had a particularly busy day, with multiple calls for vehicle fires in less than a day.

First Responders in Newburgh, NY

The Town of Newburgh relies on many first responders, both professional and volunteer, to answer emergency calls. These include Middle Hope Fire Department, Cronomer Valley Fire Department, Town of Newburgh Police, and Town of Newburgh Emergency Services.

Firefighters, police officers, and other first responders answer calls ranging from serious accidents and vehicle fires to some (thankfully) lower-stakes events, like what happened when a black bear decided to attend SUNY New Paltz. Check out photos below.

On Thursday (June 23, 2022) this unassuming good-size black bear wandered onto campus and decided to climb a tree. The SUNY New Paltz Police along with the NYS DEC Police monitored the situation on-site. They were able to encourage the campus visitor to return home without incident.
