Local Hudson Valley band monarch. is at it again with their latest single, "No Vacancy," which releases today, April 7th. The latest edition to their catalogue delves into the personal struggle of not having space in one's life for anyone else but oneself, only in order to protect oneself.

monarch.'s "No Vacancy" Explores the Importance of Self-Preservation

The first thing that I have to point out is that the song was recorded live, and I love when artists do that. The band monarch. said that they did that in order to contain the energy of their live performances and add a more personal touch. I love it when artists do that. There is a magic to a live performance, and its an incredible thing when you can capture that magic in a recording.

At one point or another, most of us have battled with the fear of letting anyone into our lives, whether from being hurt too many times, constantly feeling unseen, or for other personal reasons. "No Vacancy" by monarch. captures that vibe with its heartfelt lyrics and mesmerizing melody. monarch.'s goal when when writing this song was to emphasize the importance of self-preservation and the need to prioritize one's mental and emotional health.

Whether you struggled with letting someone into your life in the past, or you are still dealing with that, the song's thought-provoking lyrics create an evocative experience that will resonate with those struggling with inner acceptance. It is an honest portrayal of one's inner conflict.

"No Vacancy" is brought to life with Sarah’s raw and gritty quality filled with emotion and depth, Nick’s improvisational ability, Jesse’s intricate bass lines that support and amplify the band's sound, and Alex’s expressive energy. "No Vacancy" is a testament to monarch.'s versatility and skill as songwriters.

"No Vacancy" brings a number of things to mind while I listen to it. First of all, I've been fortunate enough to write a few articles on monarch., and I can hear their distinct sound forming stronger and stronger each time. When I listen to this track, I hear a little Amy Winehouse influence along with legendary powerful female songwriters Carole King and even Janis Joplin. It's got a great modern pop/rock vibe, while feeling classic at the same time with some jazzy and soulful elements.
