The origin story behind the classic board game Monopoly is headed to the big screen. The project has been confirmed to be in the works at Big Beach Films, producer of big-name films like "Little Miss Sunshine" and the upcoming "About Ray."

The origin of Monopoly traces back to 1904, when it was created as an educational tool to illustrate the negative aspects of concentrating land in private monopolies. The idea of a Monopoly film has reportedly been shopped around since 2009, by Hasbro who is the owner of Parker Brothers, the game maker.
