You know you're from the Hudson Valley when...

...someone mentions Moonrise and you know exactly what they're talking about; delicious stuffed bagels available at various locations across the Hudson Valley.

Moonrise has steadily become a household name around here, and when they brought a storefront into Dutchess County last year, a complete game changer for those of us across the river.

Moonrise: The Original Stuffed Bagel

The quick and easy backstory of Moonrise Bagels. Established back in 2020, technically, when owners Jeremy and Ali put great use to those COVID times and decided to stuff pizza filling INSIDE a bagel. It was New Years Eve when they had that initial idea of putting pizza inside a bagel; testing their concepts until creating the perfect recipe for common (and these days maybe not so common) fillings actually baked INSIDE the bagel. Word spread, and according to them, 'within weeks, what started out as a passion project soon evolved into a bonafide bagel business.'

From pizza filling to Philly cheesesteak, buffalo chicken, eggplant parm, reuben, and classics like egg and cheese, or sausage/bacon egg and cheese, these unique stuffed bagels have been filling the stomachs of hungry Hudson Valley'ers for the past several years. These days, they've even branched out to some incredible specialty fillings like the viral Dubai chocolate and rainbow cookie (yes, you read that right).

From that initial idea of stuffing pizza into a bagel, to their first retail location in Woodstock, they've since expanded to a storefront in Poughkeepsie, as well as a Kingston location. They've had national news coverage, won prestigious bagel awards, and had famous visitors like Governor Hochul, and foodies who do fun social reviews, too.

Changes To Moonrise Poughkeepsie: Just The Stuffed

The Poughkeepsie Moonrise Bagels location opened in summer 2024 in the newly constructed Hudson Heritage Plaza, and naturally bagel lovers from across the area lined up to get their hands on these stuffed creations (and completely wiped them out during opening festivities).

Since, the Poughkeepsie Moonrise location has become a Dutchess County staple.

Moonrise shared an update on August 7th about plans for Poughkeepsie moving forward; no, they aren't closing.

Effective August 14th, Poughkeepsie will transition to a 'Just the Stuffed' location, much like their Kingston shop. This means that they will no longer offer their unstuffed (aka a standard bagel, cut, with the toppings placed in-between the two sides), instead focusing on what 'makes Moonrise Bagels special' which is obviously their award winning stuffed bagels. You can check out their official announcement below.

As referenced, Woodstock will still offer 'unstuffed' - and in order to prepare for the switch to 'Just the Stuffed' in Poughkeepsie, ALL Moonrise locations will be closed Tuesday August 12th and Wednesday August 13th.
