Five Easy Ideas For Hudson Valley Moms This Mother’s Day
We're almost there, celebrated the second Sunday of May each year, the day we thank all the moms in our world for all they do, and treat them to a fun (and hopefully relaxing) day.
A survey done by Motherly back in 2023 came back with the following results:
Motherly’s 2023 State of Motherhood Survey shows 58% of moms report they are primarily responsible for the duties of running a household and caring for children this year, up 2% over 2022. The majority of moms (62%) still report getting less than an hour to themselves each day.
An hour, this is so relatable. As 2026 marks my 11th Mother's Day I have to be honest, whenever anyone asks me what I want for Mother's Day, the answer is simple:
peace and quiet...

I Don't Think I'm In The Minority Here
I know i'm not alone, as the girls in the group chat are always open and honest with one another and we tend to agree that sometimes, you just want to be left alone. Obviously if you've got little ones in the house, the homemade Mother's Day crafts from school or daycare are always adorable, and even the breakfast in bed is a hit (as long as we don't have to clean up the dishes), but honestly, after that, I think a lot of moms would agree, having a quiet, clean house to themselves for the rest of the day is pure magic.
Not that you need it, but here's my permission to do what YOU want on Sunday, or let your family in on the fact that you don't need the whole day to be a giant party...a little R&R for mom can go a long way.

Low-Key Ideas To Treat Mom This Mother's Day
In no particular order, my personal top five list of things mom might enjoy this Mother's Day that don't necessarily take a lot of effort (or cash), but will likely make mom feel appreciated.
- A quiet house: take the kids out! What you do, we don't care, but giving mom the opportunity to have some quiet time in the house, especially if the laundry and dishes are done, all the vacuuming and mopping is taken care of, and especially if the bathroom's have been scrubbed, speaking of which...
- A house cleaning: a few years ago I treated myself (as a Mother's Day gift) to a house cleaning from another local mom who posted in a Facebook group she was starting her own cleaning business. Let me tell you, two years later, that one time treat is something I do regularly, and there's NOTHING like coming home to a sparkling and well organized home...
- Local bookstore/cafe gift card: cliche, but i've found that there's nothing a cup of coffee or booze, and a trashy book can't cure. Let mom escape for an hour or two at some of the great spots we have in the Hudson Valley, by herself.
- Can't go wrong with pampering: my advice (and one of my favorite gifts over the years) have been a gift card to my favorite mani/pedi spot or one of the local foot spas. Better yet, make an appointment for mom to go, and find a spa that serves wine :)
- Meal prep: honestly, if the mom in your world is the one responsible for figuring out what's for dinner EVERY.SINGLE.NIGHT - mapping out a meal or two, or even surprising her with a week of meal planning that's already been done, what a game changer. Or better yet, grab a half price gift card and order in, or send mom out for a SOLO DINNER.
Just a few simple thoughts from a fellow local mom who gets it...sometimes an afternoon on the couch with a glass of your beverage of choice in hand watching your favorite trashy tv, or in my case a full Yankee game without interruption...is all I can ask for.
Happy Mother's Day!
