Legendary New York Ballplayer Supports Local Ice Cream Shop

Just think about how many people reported celebrity sightings during the filming for the new Netflix series 'The Four Seasons' which came out May 1st and showcases so many prominent Hudson Valley locations.

'The Straw' Stops By Hudson Valley Ice Cream Shop

Customers at The Jolly Cow in Lake Katrine got more than just one treat when visiting the popular ice cream shop in Ulster County on Friday, May 2nd.

The well-known all-star player, who during his career helped both 'Subway Series' teams to World Series Championships, played for The New York Mets and New York Yankees among other teams. Strawberry was in the Hudson Valley over the weekend, and stopped by to support one of the area's most well-known and well-loved ice cream spots.

We're still waiting to hear if he opted for a scoop of strawberry...

Darryl Strawberry's Hudson Valley Travels

While it would be pretty awesome if the 'Straw' was here just to grab a cone from the Jolly Cow, the real reason behind his time in the Hudson Valley was to support a wonderful cause that hits close to home.

On Sunday May 3rd, Cantine Field in Saugerties welcomed Strawberry to a high school baseball invitational. The event, titled 'Strike Out The Darkness' illuminated the darkness of addition and suicide.

Strawberry, during his time in the MLB, struggled with addiction and was suspended multiple times due to substance abuse. Over the years, Strawberry has struggled with addition, encountered many health issues including cancer and recently heart issues. He started the Darryl Strawberry Foundation (supporting children with autism), and does a great deal of work with organizations that support the Christian faith including his own 'Strawberry Ministries.'
