Is This the Most Remarkable State Vehicle in New York?
An upstate New York government has a new addition to its fleet, and residents wouldn't be blamed if they thought it was a giant Hot Wheels truck.
While local Hudson Valley agencies are celebrating more modest acquisitions like the latest ambulance that was delivered to the Kerhonkson-Accord First Aid Squad, another upstate new York government has added a $200,000 vehicle that can drive on land... and water.
The Sherp N-1200 has Arrived in New York
The vehicle, known as a Sherp N-1200, has been called "the most advanced 4-wheel-drive business solution ever built" by its manufacturer Quadro International. But what does that mean... and what is it for?
What Is the Sherp N-1200?
The company boasts that the N-1200 is a vehicle for anyone faced with "the most difficult environmental conditions". In the case of the recent New York State purchase, the vehicle is meant to be utilized by emergency responders.
Onondaga County Buys New Sherp N-1200
The Sherp N-1200 was reportedly purchased by the Onondaga County government and is meant to act as an all-terrain vehicle for critical rescue missions. The county demonstrated the vehicle's capabilities at a recent unveiling (below).
The Sherp N-1200 can reportedly operate in both extreme heat and cold, and drive through, on, over, and in almost any terrain. The vehicle is clearly impressive, but is it overkill for a local upstate government agency?
Does the Sherp Make Sense in New York?
While the N-1200 might seem out of place in sleepy New York towns when its promotional video shows the vehicle speeding across deserts and scaling mountains, New York winters could very well call for such an extreme option.
From water rescues to scaling snowbank, it's hard to argue that the Sherp will go unused. Whether or not the vehicle will be worth its $200,000 price tag remains to be seen, but what is certain is that this "ridiculous" vehicle will certainly make an impact... and not just for Hot Wheels enthusiasts.
