DATA: Just How ‘Sinful’ Is New York State?
While there's nothing quite like Sin City, thus not a surprise why Nevada takes the cake for the most sinful state yet again, New York isn't all that innocent, and therefore not too far behind when it comes to this year's rankings.

Well Behaved? Illicit or Immoral Behavior?
A recent study conducted by WalletHub took a look at 54 key indicators of immoral or illicit behavior, state by state, to determine a ranking order, state by state, of the most sinful vs. the least.
The methodology behind the study looked at seven key dimensions:
- anger and hatred
- jealousy
- excesses and vices
- greed
- lust
- vanity
- laziness
Across a 100 point scale, each dimension and subsequent metric was given a weighted value, and assessed state by state to determine the ranking order.
New York Takes 10th Place on Sinful List
The results are in, and New Yorkers aren't as angelic as we make ourselves out to be (do we do that?).
When it comes to sinfulness, with 1 being the most sinful, New York ranked 10th overall, 14th for anger and hatred, 13th for jealousy, 9th for lust, 2nd for vanity and 10th for laziness - is any of this surprising to anyone?
New York did not rank top 5 (or bottom for that matter) for thefts per capita, excessive drinking, prostitution and commercialized vice arrests per capita and percentage of adults not exercising. New York did, however, take the number 1 spot for number of beauty salons per capita (that probably helped our vanity ranking), and tied for 47th for share of population with a gambling disorder (I honestly thought we'd rank higher).
