New York Most Affected by Recent Salmonella Outbreak
The Center for Disease Control has declared a salmonella outbreak and cases have hit the east coast. One death has already been reported in New York so far.
Summer is here and eating tropical fruit is the thing to do to keep cool. However, please take caution as papaya's with salmonella bacteria have already hit twelve states sice mid May.
According to The Center for Disease Control's reports and case maps, salmonella from the Yellow Maradol Papaya has affected almost fifty people nationwide and approximately thirteen of them are from New York as of July 21. So far, the only reported death was in New York City.
The CDC suggests that consumers do not eat yellow papayas from restaurants or purchase them from local markets.
If your food was contaminated or you may have eaten food containing salmonella bacteria, here are the symptoms from The Mayo Clinic:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Abdominal cramps
- Diarrhea
- Fever
- Chills
- Headache
- Blood in the stool
These symptoms could occur within 24 hours and could last up to 10 days.
