NYDEC Accepting Applications for Day Old Pheasant Program
The New York Department of Environmental Conservation, NYDEC, is accepting applications for their day old pheasant program. This program started in New York in the early 1900's, according to a press release, and it is funded through the state conservation program.
In order to be considered to receive the day old pheasant chicks, you will need to prove that you can take care of them during their initial growth. This proof will include a brooding facility, a covered outdoor rearing pen, and an adequate release site, in addition to food and water for the chicks.
Applications are due by March 25, 2018 and can be submitted for Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester counties to the DEC at 21 South Putt Corners Rd. New Paltz, NY 12561, for questions and additional information, call (845) 256-3098.
If your site is selected to receive chicks, they will be distributed in April, May or June.
