One school district has come up with a plan for students who's families owe money for lunches. Warwick Public Schools in Rhode Island announced that they will serve kids behind on their payment a cold sunbutter and jelly sandwich rather than the usual hot lunch starting next week.

The move has drawn widespread criticism from parents. Some say this will embarrass the kids and also fails to consider that some families could be financially struggling. Some have called this "lunch shaming".

WRPI says that Warwick Schools has over $27,000 in lunch debt from unpaid meals. Some other parents actually agreed with the move saying that some families could take advantage of the school's generosity if nothing were done.

Some states such as New Mexico have laws that prevent "lunch shaming", even if bills haven't been paid by the students.
