Is This a Shameless New Hudson Valley Trend or a Horrific Coincidence?
There's no mincing words when it comes to describing the horrible things that allegedly happened to a small kitten in the Hudson Valley last week. What's even worse is that there's a chance it could be a sign of a disturbing trend.
The victim, an adorable cat nicknamed Ava by the Warwick Valley Humane Society, is thankfully recovering after being treated for her injuries... but what can be done to make sure this never happens again?
Ava the Kitten Found Injured in Chester, NY
The community was made aware of Ava after she was found in the middle of Arcadia Rd. in Chester, NY. The Orange County kitten (who also happened to be orange herself) had suffered injuries to her face that seemed consistent with a specific and violent act.
Was This Abandoned Orange County Kitten Thrown from a Vehicle?
"Ava sustained a slight concussion along with her other injuries. She may have taken a bad fall or been dropped from a moving vehicle", the Humane Society shared on Facebook. Unfortunately, this wouldn't be the first time this region of Orange County saw this type of alleged animal abuse.
Similar Abuse of Another Orange Kitten in Orange County, NY
Chester, NY is less than 13 miles from the city of Middletown. Nearly a year ago to the date, a similar alleged act was witnessed firsthand and reported to police when a different orange kitten was thrown out of a moving vehicle (above and below).
The difference in the two cases is that the 2024 abuse was witnessed by another person who was immediately able to rescue the kitten and rush them to the veterinarian. But are these two events an awful coincidence or a disturbing trend?

Fur Color Biases with Cats and Dogs
Data from two events is not enough to draw any conclusions, but there are certain biases against animals regarding their fur color that might be relevant. While black cats (and black dogs) are far less likely to be adopted (and therefore more likely to be euthanized), orange cats have certain struggles as well.
Orange Cat Stereotypes
Orange cats have often been stereotyped as being wild or chaotic, but professionals say that these characteristics are far more likely to be caused by the behavior of the animal's owner than anything else.

No matter the motivation, it's clear that some Hudson Valley animals are still in need of champions to save them from neglect and abuse, including little Ava who is currently recovering with the Warwick Valley Humane Society. Check out more Hudson Valley rescues below.
