Scam Alert: Fake Jury Duty Calls Making the Rounds in Orange County

Here We Go Again: Jury Duty Scam Back in Orange County

A few months back, residents in Orange County New York reported receiving calls about missed Jury Duty.

The caller would alledge that the person had missed Jury Duty and now owed money to Orange County. If they didn't pay, they would be arrested.

Unfortunately, it looks like that scam is making the rounds again. The Orange County Sheriff's Office took to social media to inform "residents about a rising jury duty scam that has been reported to our office."

The post, shared on June 22nd, 2026, states the following:

Individuals are making scam calls pretending to be from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, claiming you have an outstanding warrant for failing to appear for jury duty.

They add "Scammers will then pressure you to send money in order to avoid arrest."

Obviously, that isn't going to happen and this is just another way scammers are working to get money from innocent victims.

How To Protect Yourself From Jury Duty Scam in Orange County

The Orange County Sheriff's Office has shared several tips to keep yourself and information safe.

They write you should not "send money, gift cards, wire transfers or cryptocurrency" over the phone.

Additionally, you should not share personal or financial information, like Social Security numbers, bank or credit card information.

If you receive an Jury Duty scam phone call the Orange County Sheriff's Office says you should "Hang up immediately if a caller demands payment related to jury service."

Then follow these steps:

-Report the scam to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office or you local Police Department

-Verify jury information only through the official website: www.nyjuror.gov
