The procedure for emergency response will soon look a little different in certain parts of the Hudson Valley after new approvals in Orange County, NY.

Across multiple counties, emergency services work tirelessly, often on volunteer hours, to help keep local residents safe. The new changes reflect a mission to make responses even quicker.

New Emergency Response Plan in Orange County, NY

Recently, the Orange County Sheriff's office shared that thanks to new approvals, the agency will soon begin a new program that will allow sheriff deputies to assist in emergency response in a new way:

What Is an Orange County Sheriff "FLY-Car"?

The "FLY-Car" program is a new strategy that would assign a qualified deputy to act as an Emergency Medical Technician when they arrive at a call before standard EMT or EMS services.

New "FLY-Car" Program from the Orange County Sheriff's Office

Sheriff Arteta explained that the ability to respond more quickly (a "FLY-Car" will respond to emergencies within a 10-minute dispatch time frame) may "significantly increase patient survivability and lower the severity of lasting injury" when compared to solely relying on an ambulance service.

New "FLY-Car" Program in Orange County, NY Set to Launch July 2025

While the new program is set to launch in July 2025, any resident experiencing an emergency should still follow traditional procedures and contact 911 before following dispatch instructions.
