A popular New Paltz bar has poured its last cocktail. According to a post to their Facebook page, Oasis Cafe and Katana Sake Bar will not reopen this fall after a seasonal closure. Owner Bobby Downs made the announcement after more than 27 years in business split between his time there and the old Griffon, which is now Lola's.

Downs had this to say about the establishment, we like his style:

I opened my first club, The Griffon, with a simple philosophy: A proper bar should be an authentic joint; dark and rough around the edges. It should be an inclusive place to hear good music, dance, play games, meet new people, share ideas, try interesting libations and escape the outside world. It should be hard to find, dimly lit, poorly advertised and maligned by polite society. Hopefully it's the kind of place you barely want to be seen in.

He went on to thank his patrons and staff and encourages people to not mourn the passing of the establishment but to remember the good times.

We'd like to thank them for all the hospitality over the years including offering themselves up as a stop on our Happy Hour Tour of the Hudson Valley last year. If you have any memories you'd like to share, please leave in the comments section below.
