Rockland County Man Arrested in Train Conductor Assault Case

A Hudson Valley-based man was arrested in connection with the assault of a New Jersey Transit train conductor in an incident that took place on September 7, 2023.

The news came in a joint announcement from City of Port Service Police Chief William Worden and Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler.

Rockland County Man Charged With Multiple Felonies And A Misdemeanor Charge in September Assault

A 22-year-old resident of Rockland County, Damarion D. Gulley, was arrested and charged on several counts following an investigation involving a train conductor. Two additional juveniles were charged.

According to the report from the Orange County DA and Port Jervis Police Chief. Gulley was found and subsequently arrested in West Nyack by city detectives, who received assistance from the Clarkstown Police Department.

Charges include two counts of Assault in the second degree (felony), and a count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the fourth degree (misdemeanor).

Following his arrest, Gulley was arraigned and remanded to Orange County Jail on $7,500 cash bail, $25,000 bond, or $50,000 partially secured bond.

September 7th Incident Involving Conductor at MTA Platform in Port Jervis

Police reports indicate that on or about the date of September 7th, Gulley was involved in a physical assault of a NJ Transit Doncutor on the MTA platform in Port Jervis. It was alleged that Gulley struck the victim in the face multiple times using a closed fist, and then again with what was identified as a railroad padlock, which resulted in the conductor to suffer a fractured jaw.

Two juveniles, ages 13 and 15, were also charged in the assault.

Port Jervis Police Chief William Worden shared the following:

This brazen attack on a citizen at their workplace is an affront to the fundamental values of our community. This conduct will never be accepted, and will be met with a swift,
thorough, and certain law enforcement response that will not rest until all involved persons are held accountable.

In addition to the City of Port Jervis, the investigation was led in conjunction with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, the MTA Police Department, the Clarkstown Police Department, the Town of Wallkill Police Department, the County Attorney’s Office, and the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center.
