Old Neversink Bridge Dropped Into The River Below

The Neversink Bridge in Port Jervis was dropped into the river below by construction workers earlier this week to make way for the new one.

According to a report from the Times Herald-Record, work has begun on the project in October of 2018. The project is estimated to cost more than $19 million with federal funds covering 80% of the costs, while the state picks up 15%. The remainder will need to be covered by local taxpayers.

The original bridge was built in the 1920s and was long overdue to be replaced. If the $19 million price tag seems high, that's because local officials decided to do additional work to the town while they're at it. East Main Street is being widened along with multiple intersections being re-aligned.
