PHOTOS: Nightmare Traffic After Rollover on 9W in Newburgh
Route 9W in Newburgh, NY was snarled in nearly two miles of traffic this morning after a rollover accident in front of Balmville Elementary School.
The accident at the intersection of 9W and Fostertown Road halted traffic in all four directions, causing many drivers to turn around and search for other ways to continue their local commute. Those who needed to stay on 9W, however, were left to wait in a line of traffic that was nearly two miles long.
Rollover Accidents in the Hudson Valley, NY
There have been several major rollover accidents on some of the Hudson Valley's busiest roads in recent days. On November 27th, first responders were called to a serious collision on Route 9 in Wappingers Falls, NY (below).
Route 9 and Route 9W Rollover Accidents
Of course in the case of motor vehicle accidents, traffic is the last cause for concern when lives may be in danger. While injuries were reported in Wappingers Falls, there has been no official word on the accident this morning in Newburgh, NY where crews worked efficiently as tow trucks were called to the scene to assist with clearing the road as soon as possible.
Hudson Valley drivers may wait patiently while emergency workers respond to an accident, but the same is not true when it comes to traffic caused by construction detours. In Ulster County, NY, commuters are counting down the days until the detour that has caused mile-long backups at a temporary traffic light on 44-55 is finally over (above).
"Normal" roads like Route 9W can be dangerous due to speeding, texting, or untrained drivers, but some other streets in New York are perilous even when no one else is on the road. Learn more about the most dangerous roads in the state below.
