Heading to Straight Up NY this Saturday from noon to 5 PM? Here are a few things to keep in mind. First and foremost, make sure to have a designated driver. Treat the designated driver well, maybe even purchase a bottle of fine NY Spirits to give them as a gift for not being able to sample all the spirits with you.

Before you get to the event (and during) hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Drink lots of water.
Make plans to get there just about noon. When you get into the event. Look around, make mental notes about the layout. Who have you tried already and who would you like to try. By getting their near the time that it begins, you will have as much time as possible to talk to the distillers and sample their fine products.

When trying the products, remember that this is not a shot contest. Talk to the person at the table, ask them how is this spirit best enjoyed? Should it be served neat? On the rocks? Or is it best in a cocktail? The people at the tables they are the expert on that product, so feel free to ask them questions. Find out where their distillery is. Do they have tours? What stores carry their products?

Bring money with you and by the word money, try to bring cash. Bottles will be available for purchase. So if you find something tasty that you enjoy, you can take it home with you. This is a great way to remember your day. Maybe pick up another bottle for your designated driver or as a gift for a friend?
