While Michael Bay’s Transformers series may be at an end with the upcoming The Last Knight, there are a number of Transformers spinoffs in the works to keep the robots in disguise on the big screen for the next few years at least. One of these is the Bumblebee movie, and there are also talks of taking the robots back in time to the days of ancient Rome.

According to Empire’s in-depth spread featuring the writers of the Transformers universe, scanned by Transformer World 2005, the writers are seriously considering a Rome-based Transformers movie. As we know from The Last Knight’s trailers, the Autobots and Decepticons have been warring on our planet for centuries, at least as far back as King Arthur’s day (who, according to this movie, was totally a real guy). If there were robots fighting amongst British knights, there could certainly be some swinging swords in the gladiator arena or fighting with Roman armies against the Visigoths.

The Last Knight is an interesting creature, in that it effectively ends one branch of a franchise by starting another. From here, we can go anywhere: Optimus and Bumblebee fighting alongside Japanese samurai, Starscream assisting the American Revolution, Megatron scaling the Great Wall of China. We could be staring down the barrel of ten more years of Transformers invading our history books, turning the tide of world events to suit their aims, all the whole pretending to be cars or trucks or ships or dragons. Are you not entertained?

Transformers: The Last Knight hits theaters June 21.
