Bridge Construction Spells Delays for Fishkill, New York Residents

Fishkill, New York residents should expect delays as construction gets more intense on a local bridge.

Washington Avenue Bridge Construction Intensifies

The construction to replace the bridge on Washington Avenue in Fishkill enters a new phase. The Fishkill bridge is located near Petticoat Lane and Maple Street. The work on the bridge is meant to take the existing structure and turn it into a new, wider bridge.

To expedite the transition, Washington Avenue has been reduced to a single lane, and is being controlled by a temporary traffic light. Those looking to use Petticoat Lane should look for alternative routes because Petticoat Lane will be close at its intersection with Maple Street. A detour will be posted. Construction crews expect this construction and detour to be in effect for about 5 weeks. The Dutchess County Government encourages drivers to take caution and allow for extra travel times.

Fishkill Bridge Construction Will Impede Traffic for More than a Month

Back in August of 2022, The Dutchess County Department of Public Works (DPW) announced work to replace a bridge on Washington Avenue in the Town of Fishkill.Washington Avenue averages approximately 5,544 vehicles per day. The bridge, located over the Fishkill Creek at the intersection of Maple Street and Petticoat Lane, will be replaced to ensure the safety and stability of the bridge and roadway for motorists.

Project work has involved replacing the structure with a new, wider bridge that will include sidewalks on both sides. The new bridge will be built adjacent to the existing structure, allowing the current bridge and roadway to remain open during construction, however there will be occasional single-lane traffic patterns over the course of the project, such as the one happening now. The new bridge was initially expected to open to traffic in the summer of 2023.
