Bannerman Castle Receives Sizeable Grant

The Bannerman Castle Trust announced some great news for the future of the iconic Hudson River island.

According to a press release, Bannerman Castle has been awarded a $27,450 matching grant from The Environmental Protection Fund's Parks and Trails Partnership Grants program.

Neil Caplan, Bannerman Castle Trust's Executive Director, said in a statement "Parks & Trails NY has been a vital partner to the Trust" adding:

"With $297,550 in total support over the years, their funding has been instrumental in our mission to preserve and stabilize the island's historic structures."

Bannerman Island is one of 27 organizations across New York State that will receive a portion of $2.25 million in funding.

The grant is going to help make essential updates to the island and castle.

What Will The Grant Help Improve on Bannerman Island?

The $27,450 grant money will be used to make much needed approvements.

In the press release Bannerman Castle Trust explains what the improvements entail. The BCT writes

The funding will support a transformative project on Pollepel Island, connecting the existing "Red Trail" to "The Grotto," a previously hidden architectural feature.

The money will also "improve visitor access to the Wee Bay area." At the Wee Bay area guests can enjoy gorgeous southern views in the area of West Point. The Bannerman Castle Trust adds:

These infrastructure upgrades are designed to enhance the experience for all visitors, specifically improving accessibility for those with impaired mobility.

Parks & Trails New York Executive Director, Paul Steely, said in the press release “This year's record-breaking awards ensure that vital sites like Bannerman Island continue to educate, inspire, and warmly welcome all who visit."
