Cafe Primavera, Poughkeepsie

For the past 25 years, Cafe Primavera has been one of the 'institutions' as some would say, of Poughkeepsie. Perfectly situated just next door to the Bardavon Opera House, and down the road from the Courthouse on that very busy stretch of Market Street, the restaurant has been a well-loved, reliable spot to grab a meal or order catering.

Known for their sandwiches, Italian specialties like Chicken Francese and what some refer to as the best Eggplant Parmesan they've ever had, the Cafe Primavera menu had something for everyone. From your standard breakfast fare to unique omelets and wraps, and a lengthy lunch menu as well, not to mention their daily specials.

The eatery was notably one of the few to maintain 'regular' operation during the pandemic, ensuring that hungry essential workers were still able to find a spot to grab a bite to eat.

Back in 2012, Cafe Primavera officially became the first business in Poughkeepsie to sign on and offer discounts to veterans via the Dutchess County FAVOR Program.

Cafe Primavera Shutters For Good, Friday March 20th

Though the news was a shock to many, there were plenty of others who wished chef/owner Greg Letterii the best in whatever comes next in the 'post-Primavera' days, as the news of the cafe's closure began to spread last week.

The Bardavon Opera House posted their emotional well wishes to their neighbors:

We wish our neighbor of 25 years and friend of a lifetime farewell as Cafe Primavera closes its doors today, March 20, 2026. Greg and team, we are deeply grateful to have been two doors down from your flavorful food and friendly faces for so long. Always know you have a home here with us on Market Street and we firmly believe that NO ONE makes better eggplant parm...

Comments that followed echoed many of the same sentiments, about the food, the friendly nature of the staff, the customer service, and even about feeding them during the pandemic:

I wish them the best, they sure got us thru the pandemic when I worked for the county, wishing them well in their future endeavors.

Farewell and best wishes to a staple of Market Street in Poughkeepsie.
