Three Ulster County women are lucky to be alive after a serious auto accident.

Ulster police said that 39-year-old Penny D. Scofield suffered an undisclosed medical issue while driving. Scofield reportedly hit two moving cars, bushes and a guardrail before going airborne and landing on two parked cars.

The Times Herald reports the accident happened Tuesday morning.

Police said it all started when Scofield was driving south on Enterprise Drive when she failed to properly make a left turn onto Boices Lane and then went off the road and into some bushes.

Scofield then re-entered Boices Lane and hit a 2015 Chevrolet driven by 52 year-old Evelyn R. Peters of Saugerties. Scofield then continued east and hit a wooden guardrail before coming to rest.

Police said Scofield then backed up her car, going west on the eastbound side of Boices Lane and hit another car, driven by 67 year-old Diane M. Lent of Lake Katrine. Scofield then continued going west through the Enterprise Drive intersection, onto Boices Lane Extension and into a grassy area of Tech City.

At this point she was still driving backwards, according to the Times Herald. Scofield then crossed both lanes on Boices Lane Extension and hit an earth embankment, which caused her car to go airborne.

She landed on two unoccupied vehicles in the United Health Care parking lot.

Police said no one was hurt.

Scofield was taken by Mobile Life Support Services to HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley in Kingston for evaluation.

No tickets were issued, but police said their investigation is continuing.
