Cashless Tolls Causing Hudson Valley Residents Stress

A Hudson Valley woman was forced to withdraw money from her retirement fund to settle up an unexpected debt made worse by New York's new cashless toll system. LoHud reports Ossining resident Janet Berg was forced to take out nearly $5,000 from her retirement account when she found out her vehicle registration was about to get suspended. She'd been having issues with the tolling system for years, but it was the lack of recourse that frustrated her.

Thankfully there have been some changes made to the cashless toll program since it began. There is also now an amnesty program, if you have an unpaid ticket dated between April 24, 2016 and January 31, 2018, you can head to the website and apply to have your fees waived. LoHud held a forum earlier this year that included two representatives from the NYS Thruway. They were able to help individuals with their issues.

It's still something to keep your eye on regardless of amnesty. If you're headed south on the Thruway towards the bridge that used to be called Tappan Zee, make sure you're keeping an eye on your bill.
