If you're gearing up for the holidays, chances are you or your family members are gathering in the kitchen.

It's tradition every year in my family that all my cousins come over one day in December and we spend hours baking in the kitchen. From chocolate chip, chocolate crinkles, to sugar cookies we cover all the bases.

One of the best parts of growing up is taking a little taste test of the cookie dough.  Our parents always warned us that it was dangerous and we could get sick, but we always called them Debbie Downers and moved on.

As an adult, I'll be honest, I'm still taste testing the dough. Life is boring if you're not taking chances. However, the CDC is reminding us once again, that eating raw cookie dough can lead to food poisoning, E.Coli and Salmonella.

They've provided a safety list of how to avoid the bacteria's, such as:

  • Do not taste or eat any raw dough or batter, whether for cookies, tortillas, pizza, biscuits, pancakes, or crafts made with raw flour, such as homemade play dough or holiday ornaments.
  • Do not let children play with or eat raw dough, including dough for crafts.
  • Wash your hands with running water and soap after handling flour, raw eggs, or any surfaces that they have touched.

Happy baking!
