The Search for the Most Affordable Cider Donut in the Hudson Valley
Fall has arrived in the Hudson Valley, and so has the greatest creation to be made out of the season's bounty: apple cider donuts.
Everyone has their favorite way to celebrate autumn, but it's hard to beat a warm, fresh donut with the beautiful balance of tart cider and a sweet cinnamon-sugar dusting. That being said, not all donuts in the Hudson Valley are created equal... both in taste and in price.
Finding Cider Donuts in the Hudson Valley
Nearly every cider donut is delicious, but not all of them are affordable. Depending on where you shop, these autumn jewels can cost as much as two dollars a donut. Luckily, there's at least one destination that combines frugality and flavor.
Cider Donuts at Hudson Valley Farm Stands
The original home of cider donuts is of course local farm stands. While the recently-closed Tantillo's in Ulster County was the reigning favorite for many Hudson Valley residents, nearby Wright's Farm also fries up some of the best treats around (and has one of the area's best bars, too). Price-wise, however, a dozen donuts at Wright's and similar stands can run north of $20.
Cider Donuts at Hudson Valley Grocery Stores
On the other end of the spectrum, many local supermarkets also stock up on everyone's favorite seasonal baked good. Surprisingly, however, the $5.99 price tag (below) on a six-pack of cider donuts at Market 32 still wasn't the most affordable option. So where's the cheapest cider donut in the Hudson Valley?
Cider Donuts at Adams Fairacre Farms
At the time of publishing, the most affordable apple cider donut in the Hudson Valley was found at a business that feels like a happy medium between farm stand and supermarket: Adams Fairacre Farms. While the business certainly is a supermarket (and greenhouse, and more...), their approach to donuts is more hands-on than many would expect.
The Cheapest Cider Donut in the Hudson Valley Is at Adams
This month, parking lots at Adams Fairacre Farms' locations across the Hudson Valley are filled with the smell of freshly-fried donuts made right in front of the stores' entrances. Not only are the donuts delicious (and warm), but at $0.75 for a single donut and $4.49 for a six-pack, these treats are the cheapest around.

Local businesses across the Hudson Valley should all feel supported during the harvest season, and an extra fifty cents (or dollar) shouldn't be a deal-breaker when deciding where to spend some cash on fall's favorite donut. That being said, the frugal-minded resident with high standards for taste will be glad they checked out the curbside creations at their local Adams.
