Producers of "Downton Abbey" are finally answering the question weighing heavily on minds in recent weeks about the future of the series.  The show's upcoming sixth season will indeed be its last.

Executive producer Gareth Neame issued a statement confirming the news Thursday saying "Inevitably there comes a time when all shows should end and 'Downton' is no exception."

He said they wanted to close the doors of the period drama when it "felt right and natural for the storylines to come together and when the show was still being enjoyed so much by its fans." The Emmy Award-winning series follows the ups and downs of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants.  The show first aired in the U.S. in 2011 on PBS.
