A Floating Circus Will Make a Splash in Saugerties, New York This September
A floating circus will be making a splash in the Hudson Valley later on this summer.
Erie Canal Celebrates Its Bicentennial
The Erie Canal held its grand opening in 1825, which means 2025 is the bicentennial celebration of the waterway.
According to the Erie Canal National Heritage Corridor website the Erie Canal has been "widely recognized as an engineering marvel that put New York on the map as the Empire State."
They add:
It transformed New York City into the nation's principal seaport and served as a major “Gateway to the West” for waves of immigrants coming to America.
It's no wonder the 200th celebration of the canal will be one for the books. There's a full list of calendar events including presentations, musical performances and "momentous journeys" that all can take part in.
One of those events happens to be a floating circus that will sail the entire length of the Erie Canal and the Hudson River.
Flotsam River Circus To Navigate the Entire Length of the Hudson
The Flotsam River Circus is set to perform on the Erie Canal and Hudson River throughout the next few months.
In March they announced on their Facebook page that they would be taking part in the Erie Canal Bicentennial celebration writing "NEW YORK - here we come!"
The post goes on to add they will be stopping in a handful of towns including Syracuse, Rochester, Schenectady, Albany, Saugerties, Kingston and Poughkeepsie along with a "dozens of other towns."
Where to Watch Flotsam River Circus in The Hudson Valley?
The Saugerties Chamber of Commerce announced earlier in June 2025, that Flotsam will make a stop on the Hudson River in the Ulster County town later on this summer.
The free show will take place on Tuesday September 2nd, 2025. You can learn more about the Flotsam River Circus, like where and when the shows will be throughout the summer at RiverCircus.com.
