There are a lot of things that one can do with their money, real estate, assets, and general property upon their passing. Even those without immediate family, or without relationships with their family, have ways of distributing what they own. Some people, have their money go to a preferred charity that's near and dear to their heart. Maybe they bestow their belongings upon the person who took care of them toward the end of their life. Perhaps they surprise a distant relative for whom they had a particular fondness. Hell, there are plenty of people who leave their money and belongings to a beloved pet of some kind (yes, there are parakeets that have more money than you and I combined).
