Gold's Gym Newburgh and Gold Gym's Middletown released a joint statement to announce new temporary policies that will be implemented right away to help combat the spread of coronavirus.

"It’s time that we all stand united as a community in stopping the spread of Coronavirus," Gold's Gym wrote.

The new temporary policies include:

  • All gym members and guests are now encouraged to use disposable one-time use gloves while working out. Staff members are told to wear gloves while working at the gym.
  • The gym's current policy of requiring all members and staff to wipe down equipment after every use will be strictly enforced. Anyone who is observed not wiping down their equipment will be asked to leave the gym. Continued abuse will result in a 30-day suspension of membership.
  • Anyone who is experiencing any cold or flu-like symptoms, inclusive of coughing, excessive sneezing, runny nose, or congestion, is not permitted on the premises.
  • Anyone experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms while in the gym will be asked to leave until such symptoms have entirely disappeared.
  • Children who are students in any local schools that are closed may not be brought to the gym until those schools have reopened.

"We must act now. THANK YOU, everyone, for your understanding and commitment to working together and playing a role in preventing the spread of Coronavirus. If we all do our part, remain aware of our surroundings, and follow the directives from the CDC and health professionals, we can (and will) make this virus a thing of the past," Gold's Gym said

Gold's Gym has locations in Newburgh, Middletown, Poughkeepsie, Fishkill, Carmel and Harriman.

The company is in the process of hiring additional cleaners throughout the day in both clubs. These additional cleaners will be solely responsible for wiping down and disinfecting fitness equipment and surfaces throughout the gym. Multiple dispensers of disinfectant wipes throughout the fitness areas will also be added.

"This will make for easier access of a disinfectant wipe for both members and staff to use in wiping and disinfecting all equipment after use. The new dispensers will appear in the fitness areas of both clubs as soon as possible," Gold's Gym said. "While we currently have some inventory of wipes at this time, an additional larger order remains on back-order at this time. The paper towels and disinfectant spray bottles should continue to be used."
