Hudson Valley Lawmaker Introduces Bill to Opt Out of Daylight Savings
New York State could be the next state to opt-out of Daylight Saving Time.
A local New York State Senator has introduced a bill that would make the state opt-out of Daylight Saving Time. New York State Senator James Skoufis (D) of Orange County and the 29th Senate District introduced the bill, according to 13 WHAM. The bill would make New York State operate under Atlantic Standard Time. Clocks wouldn't be turned ahead or back and would result in a later sunrise and sunset.
According to 13 WHAM, people would be able to enjoy more sunlight after work or school. However, it would still be dark when children wait for the school bus. This law will only go into effect if Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania pass similar laws.
New York State Senator James Seward (R) of New York's 51st Senate District also has an interest in the topic of opting-out of Daylight Saving Time, according to 13 WHAM. Seward introduced a bill to create a task force to study the implications of no Daylight Saving Time in New York State.
