Hudson Valley School Announces it Will Close For Good

Parents and students were saddened to find out that their school is shutting its doors and will not reopen in September.

This month many parents and children are consumed with back-to-school shopping. But some families are now being forced to shop for a whole new school. Concerned parents did their best to try and keep a Hudson Valley school open, but the attempt was unsuccessful. The Kildonan School in Amenia is now closed for good.

The school specialized in teaching dyslexic students. Using the Orton-Gillingham method, classes were taught to improve language skills of dyslexic learners as well as reading, writing and spelling. According to the Lakeville Journal, the school assured parents that they would be open again next year, but did an about-face a few weeks later, announcing that the school would be closing.

A last-ditch effort to save the institution fell through last week and the Board of Trustees announced that the Kildonan School will not remain open. According to a filing with the labor department, 59 full and part-time employees will be let go. Although many have already been laid off, maintenance and administrative positions will be terminated at the end of August.
