Drivers planning to cross the Mid-Hudson Bridge this weekend might want to leave a little earlier than usual because delays are expected once again on one of the Hudson Valley's busiest river crossings.

The New York State Bridge Authority (NYSBA) has issued another travel advisory for Friday night, June 19, into Saturday morning, June 20, as crews continue work on the ongoing rehabilitation project along the bridge's east approach in Poughkeepsie.

Delays Expected on Mid-Hudson Bridge Again This Weekend

If this sounds familiar, that's because it is.

This is the second travel advisory issued by the Bridge Authority in the last two weeks as construction crews continue work on the more than $34 million rehabilitation project.

According to the NYSBA, workers will be installing additional pre-cast concrete panels, similar to the work that took place last weekend. To safely accommodate the construction equipment needed for the project, traffic will be reduced to a single lane with alternating directions while work is underway.

The lane restrictions are expected to begin at approximately 10 p.m. Friday and continue until around 10 a.m. Saturday. Officials said the overnight schedule was chosen to minimize disruptions by avoiding the bridge's busiest commuter hours.

One Small Delay Can Cause Big Problems

Anyone who regularly uses the Mid-Hudson Bridge knows it doesn't take much to create a traffic headache. Whether it's a disabled vehicle, a minor accident, or construction work, backups can happen quickly, especially now that summer has arrived and more people are traveling throughout the Hudson Valley.

That's why drivers planning to cross the Hudson River late Friday night or early Saturday morning should build in some extra travel time and be prepared for possible delays.

Officials are also reminding motorists to slow down, stay alert, and follow all posted signs when approaching the work zone. Not only will it help keep traffic moving safely, but it also helps protect the crews working overnight to complete the project.
