Lasers in my Eyes?!
I never thought I would get laser eye surgery. But here I am.
I mean, going into your eyes and messing around? That’s the sort of thing that happened in 1920s horror movies and Pixies songs:
I had heard a lot of good things from friends and relatives that had gone through the LASIK procedure, but I thought it was definitely not for me.
Okay, I can make it seem like it was something I was terrified of, but really, my wallet was the one with the greatest fears.
So when my eye doctor (the excellent Dr. Modi at the excellent Seeta Eye Centers) told me that my particular vision problems made me a great candidate for laser eye correction, I dismissed it entirely. Forget about the fear of lasers in my eyes; there was no way that was even remotely possible on my budget.
But then as the days went on, I started thinking about how nice—no, how incredibly glorious and triumphant it would be (this is where the trumpets and strings come in) if I could be free of my glasses and contacts. No more having to remember to bring solution and those stupid little contact lens cases? No more worrying about my glasses getting stepped on like Ralphie in A Christmas Story?
Maybe I could work this out.
So I went in for a meeting with Stacey in the offices at Seeta Eye Centers—skeptical, as I am. There was still that matter of cost being the biggest roadblock. Then I realized I was out of excuses. Seriously, I saw what it cost to have the procedure and did some quick Cheap Dude math in my head to figure out what contacts, solutions, glasses, and all the assorted costs added up to… and it actually made more economic sense for me to get LASIK. It could help my vision and it was affordable too?
My wallet began dancing through a beautiful field like Julie Andrews in the Sound of Music.
I had my consultation, had my eyes checked by Dr. Modi to make sure everything definitely good to go, and feel 100% confident in my decision. Everyone at Seeta Eye Centers has been so helpful, so comforting, and so willing and ready to address any questions or concerns I have that I can't help but be completely satisfied with my choice.
So here I am, waiting for this to happen. I’m not as nervous as I thought I would be, but I am anxious to do it. If you have any advice or have gone through the procedure yourself, please get in touch with me: deuce @ wrrv.com. And if you have any questions about what the process has been like for me so far, let’s talk too. I’m figuring this all out publicly, but I’m feeling good.
