An interesting rumor is circling around today that there will soon be X-Men back on your television screen.

The X-Men property has to be one of Fox's most lucrative; contrary to what might make sense, the X-Men as of yet are not, in fact, part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Fox is clinging to the rights to them with both sets of claws. So, without the ability to make crossover films with Spider-Man and the Avengers, Fox has to find ways to continue to milk that cash cow.

The X-Men animated series is one of the most beloved shows of 90s kids worldwide. I mean, just hearing the theme song gets me pumped. Tell me this isn't great:

Oh my god it's the best thing ever.

Well, they're giving it another go on the small screen, but this time it's going to be live-action:

An X-Men series is currently mutating at Fox, network co-chairman Dana Walden confirmed Thursday.
“We’re in negotiations with Marvel,” Walden told reporters at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills. “We’re hopeful that we’ll be able to announce something soon. It’s something we’re definitely pursuing."Regarding a potential conflict with Marvel, which is based out of ABC/Disney, Walden said, “The characters from the X-Men franchise are with Fox on the feature [films] side, so we won’t be including Marvel charcters that are at ABC with Disney.”

Walden, meanwhile, noted that the project is being developed as a “long-running series” versus a limited series.

We'll see if it comes to fruition.
